Planning Permission
Adding a conservatory to your house is considered to be permitted development, not needing an application for planning permission, subject to the limits and conditions listed below.
> No more than half the area of land around the "original house"* would be covered by additions or other buildings.
> No extension forward of the principal elevation or side elevation fronting a highway.
> No extension to be higher than the highest part of the roof.
> Maximum depth of a single-storey rear extension of three metres for an attached house and four metres for a detached house.
> Maximum height of a single-storey rear extension of four metres.
> Maximum depth of a rear extension of more than one storey of three metres including ground floor.
> Maximum eaves height of an extension within two metres of the boundary of three metres.
> Maximum eaves and ridge height of extension no higher than existing house.
> Side extensions to be single storey with maximum height of four metres and width no more than half that of the original house.
> Roof pitch of extensions higher than one storey to match existing house.
> No verandas, balconies or raised platforms.
> On designated land* no permitted development for rear extensions of more than one storey; no cladding of the exterior; no side extensions.
* The term "original house" means the house as it was first built or as it stood on 1 July 1948 (if it was built before that date). Although you may not have built an extension to the house, a previous owner may have done so.
* Designated land includes national parks and the Broads, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, conservation areas and World Heritage Sites.

The Edwardian era was a time when architects started to flex their imaginations by combining bold, rectangular shapes with decorative flourishes, finials, flamboyant crestings and coloured glass features. Our Range of Edwardian conservatories pay tribute to this period.
The Edwardian conservatory offers an elegant look with strong bold lines and gives maximum living space for any given area. It is completely adaptable to suit all house styles and bungalows.
The Edwardian or Georgian style is probably the most popular conservatory design chosen for modern homes as it is primarily a square or rectangular design providing the maximum use of floor space. The flat front and high sloping roof gives a vaulted effect that creates an additional living space that is flooded with natural light.
For conservatories where height restrictions such as bungalow soffits restrict the height at which the conservatory can join the house a double hipped Edwardian roof can be specified. This type of roof is constructed with an additional hip sloping down to the rear and is joined to the house using an integral aluminium box gutter at a typical height of around 2100mm.
Edwardian conservatories can be specified with traditional French doors or alternatively you can upgrade the standard eaves beam to a reinforced eaves beam and include bi-fold doors up to 3500mm wide.
The Edwardian conservatory has an airy feel and a timeless appearance that blends well with properties both old and new. So if it's a stylish, bright, open, informal living area for dining, painting or simply watching the world go by that you are looking for, take a close look at this conservatory. We feel sure you'll be impressed by it.

The Victorian or Victoriana Conservatory is a classical English design and is the most recognisable of all styles.
With its segmented front and classical ridge cresting and finials combined with the gently sloping facets of the roof, this style can add the perfect finish to modern or period property. The number of facets can vary and the more facets there are, the more curved the end of the conservatory will appear.
Naturally, the Victorian conservatory complements a Victorian property perfectly but you don't need to live in a Victorian home to enjoy its stylish features. It adds a bold yet elegant statement of individuality to even the most modern of properties.
Victorian conservatories capture an air of elegance and splendour. Victorian designs feature shallow corners that create window bays, a perfect spot in which to nestle in a comfortable sofa or chair.
A Victorian style conservatory is particularly suited to period properties but its clean lines make it a winner on any type of home. Our versatile roofing system allows for span and pitch variations for almost any configuration and size.

Our range of P-shaped conservatories combine the benefits of both lean-to conservatories and Victorian in order to form a versatile P-shape.
By having one of our P-shaped conservatories installed, you get the same spatial benefits as adding two extra rooms to your house. Because of this, you get maximum versatility when it comes to utilising your conservatory – perhaps you'd like to use one as a play area for the children and use the other as a dining room? The choice really is up to you as our P-shaped conservatories are large enough to accommodate your dreams.
Even if you want to use the conservatory as a single, expansive space, the soft lines and corners mean that the eye can move seamlessly between one part and another and because every one of our conservatories is made to measure, you get the freedom to choose exactly how large or small you want both portions of your P-shaped conservatory to be. As well as this, the dwarf wall height, door and window opening positions are your choice too, so you get the conservatory you want, every time.
Its peculiar name derives from the fact that when it is observed from above, the P-shape conservatory looks very much like the letter ‘P’ in the English alphabet. The P-shape conservatory is perfect for those home owners who have large properties that are detached. This is because the P-shaped conservatories combine, as mentioned before, two unique styles of conservatories, due to which it can have three or even five facets.
We’ve already discussed why the P-shaped conservatory is named so, and mentioned its outward appearance and listed its advantages in terms of functionality. What this does is, it allows you to have an extensive area extending into your yard or garden while providing you with the added bonus of having a conservatory immediately next to the wall along which it is built.
In essence, this gives home owners the advantage of having a relatively isolated portion of the conservatory for a ‘home away from home’ feeling, while providing for a corridor-like passage into the main structure of their home. To clarify a point, though, a P-shaped conservatory is only when a lean-to is combined with a Victorian type of conservatory-structure. When the lean-to is combined with another style, it is no longer a P-shaped conservatory.
P-shape conservatories are an ideal choice for home owners looking for larger conservatories, and those who intend to entertain guests in their conservatory area.
When it comes to P-shape conservatories, truly, the sky is the limit.

The Lean-to Conservatory combines traditional conservatory design with practicality as it makes the most use of the available floor space. Each Lean-to conservatory is designed to maximise the use of every square centimetre of your floor space, as well as being stylishly modern.
As well as having the largest projection available in any conservatory design, reaching up to 4 metres from your home, the lean-to conservatory also has enough versatility to deal with any idiosyncrasies in the shape of your building, coping equally well with external and internal corners.
Lean-to conservatories are often also referred to as ‘garden rooms’ or ‘sun rooms’, and come with a choice of doors and structural alternatives. Your lean-to conservatory can either make use of base walls or infill panels or you can opt for the lightness of a glass to ground design.
Lean-to conservatories were at one time actually thought to be an alternative to a conservatory for those who didn’t have the space. Following the contours of the building the typical lean to design was long and thin. This meant furniture needed to be placed in a line rather than allowing chairs to face each other naturally. Today the extended projection of the modern lean-to conservatory means if you have the space this no longer needs to be the case.
Lean-to conservatories are well suited to any type or age of property. Unlike Edwardian conservatories and other period designs, a lean-to conservatory will also work very well with a bungalow. In this case a low pitched roof can be designed to complement the shape of the single story property.
They are also very common due to their value for money. A number of factors make lean to conservatories very cost effective such as basic materials and simplistic design. Labour costs are also likely to be fairly low making these designs a real winner for those on a budget.
As with a few other conservatory designs, lean to’s are very versatile. You are able to choose between a square and a rectangular shape meaning the design acts as an actual extension to your property. Whether it be extra living space or a luxury relaxation spot, the lean to conservatory is extremely likely to cater for your needs.
Choosing a lean to conservatory will allow you to save on garden space and money while at the same time as keeping your options open with regard to what the conservatory may be used for.
